Bellefonte is a town of 6,400 nestled in the mountains three miles south of I-80, in the dead center of the state of Pennsylvania. It was home to seven governors, and holds one of the most exquisite Victorian downtowns in the United States. The rampant demolition of historic structures so prevalent elsewhere in the 1950s to 1970s largely bypassed Bellefonte.

Make your Bellefonte visit a study of great American history. The Bellefonte Museum of Centre County sits in the center of the town's National Historic District. The American Philatelic Society's national headquarters are housed in Bellefonte's historic Match Factory next to Tallyrand Park. Alternatively, you can fly fish (Pres. Jimmy Carter did!) and antique in these parts til the cows come home.

www.Bellefonte.com  Whether you live here and walk by the many historical markers, or if you're planning to visit, make sure you stop and read the signs telling the remarkable story of this small American town. "CENTRE COUNTY: Formed on Feb. 13, 1800 from Huntingdon, Mifflin, Lycoming and Northumberland Counties. Named for its location in the State and home of the Pennsylvania State University. Five governors of Pennsylvania lived in Bellefonte; county seat laid out in 1795."

www.VisitBellefonte.com  Victorian Bellefonte - Info on Historic Bellefonte. First-time visitors who walk along the Victorian streets of Bellefonte are often astonished at the architecture. Here is a tiny town, tucked into a valley almost exactly in the center of rural Pennsylvania, that seems strikingly out of place amid the surrounding farm villages and mining towns. The downtown streetscapes are primarily Victorian, the buildings immense, and all of them are adorned with filigree, cornices and pilasters from another era. Historic Bellefonte is located within an 8-hr drive for 2/3rds of the population of the United States. Conveniently located off I-80 in the heart of Pennsylvania, Bellefonte is only 3-4 hrs from New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and the Washington, D.C. area.
